Chronic corrosion of the brake pipes and exhaust system defines the mechanical trajectory of this vehicle, with a recurring pattern of advisories appearing from 2024 onwards. While the vehicle passed its most recent inspection on 19 January 2026, the record shows a transition from a clean test in 2021 to a series of warnings regarding structural corrosion and component wear. The trend suggests a gradual decline in the condition of the chassis and braking infrastructure. With 90,241 miles recorded over two decades, the vehicle has averaged approximately 4,512 miles per year. This low annual accumulation suggests the car has seen lighter use than typical for its age, which can often result in less drivetrain wear but may contribute to the degradation of rubber components and the onset of corrosion in areas where moisture settles during periods of inactivity. Particular attention must be paid to the braking system and chassis. The DVSA records repeatedly flag corrosion across all brake pipes, including the lines running from front to rear, which were noted as being covered in grease or other materials. A physical inspection of these lines is essential to ensure they have not been superficially treated to hide deeper oxidation. Additionally, the current advisory for thin front brake pads indicates an immediate requirement for replacement. The suspension system has shown a pattern of deterioration, specifically regarding the front upper Macpherson strut pins and the nearside front upper shock absorber bush. During a test drive, listen for knocks or clunks when traversing uneven surfaces or during low-speed steering manoeuvres. The reported corrosion of the exhaust system and the previously insecure heat shield should also be verified by checking for excessive noise or vibrations during acceleration.
