2006 Honda CR-V 2.0L Petrol · SA56 AFO

A pattern of increasing component wear and mechanical deterioration is evident in the most recent MOT history, culminating in a failure on 01 May 2026. While the vehicle recorded clean tests in 2023 and 2024, the 2025 and 2026 results show a transition towards multiple advisories and major defects. The latest test on 01 May 2026 saw the vehicle pass only after addressing a major failure regarding parking brake efficiency and an ineffective windscreen wiper, yet it remains flagged with several advisories concerning tyre wear, suspension bush condition, and corrosion on a coil spring mounting. The vehicle has covered 89,630 miles over its twenty-year lifespan, which equates to an average annual usage of approximately 4,482 miles. This represents a low-mileage profile for a 2006 model. While lower mileage often implies less wear on high-use components like the engine and gearbox, the recent MOT results suggest that age-related degradation is now becoming more prominent. The transition from no defects in 2024 to multiple advisories in 2026 indicates that rubber components and tyres are reaching the end of their functional lives, likely due to age and environmental exposure rather than high distance traveled. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the suspension and tyre condition during a physical inspection. The advisory for a worn nearside front suspension arm bush suggests potential movement in the linkage. On a test drive, listen for knocking or clunking noises when driving over uneven surfaces or speed bumps, and check for any wandering or imprecise steering feel. Furthermore, the presence of corrosion on the nearside front coil spring mounting and the repeated advisories for tyres worn on the edges or near the legal limit suggest that wheel alignment or suspension geometry may require professional investigation to prevent premature replacement of new tyres. Braking and visibility components also require scrutiny. Although the parking brake efficiency failure was rectified for the May 2026 pass, the previous advisory regarding a pitted or scored offside front brake disc indicates ongoing wear on the braking system. During testing, feel for any pulsations or judder through the brake pedal when applying pressure at speed. The windscreen wiper was also flagged for failing to clear the glass effectively, so ensure the blades and motor operate smoothly without streaking. Given the low annual mileage, check the tyres for sidewall cracking or perishing, as noted in the 2025 record, which can occur when a vehicle is not driven frequently enough to prevent rubber degradation.
