2017 DS DS3 1.6L Diesel · SH67 BKA

A remarkably clean MOT record defines this 2017 DS DS3, with five consecutive passes and zero advisories, defects, or failures recorded across the most recent test on 19 January 2026, the prior assessment on 23 January 2025, and three earlier examinations back to November 2021. The absence of any flagged items over a five-year testing window is uncommon for a vehicle approaching a decade in service, and it suggests that the components typically subject to wear on this platform, including braking hardware, suspension linkages, exhaust system, and structural underbody, have not deteriorated to a point that triggered examiner attention. While a clean MOT history is a positive indicator, it is worth noting that MOT testing represents a minimum roadworthiness threshold rather than a comprehensive mechanical inspection, so this clean sheet should be treated as a starting point rather than a complete bill of health. Mileage accumulation on this DS3 is notably modest, with 46,446 recorded miles over approximately nine years translating to an annual rate of around 5,160 miles. This is well below the typical 7,000 to 10,000 miles per year expected for a vehicle of this age, which has clear mechanical implications. Lower annual mileage can reduce wear on major drivetrain and chassis components, but it also raises the possibility of extended standing periods between uses, particularly given the gap between the November 2022 test and the January 2026 test, a span of over three years during which annual mileage data was not captured. A significant stretch without recorded mileage or testing history can mask the effects of infrequent use, including dormant corrosion on brake discs, dried rubber seals, and deterioration of fluids that do not benefit from regular circulation. The relationship between current mileage and the vehicle's age should therefore be verified against the service book and V5 documentation. For a prospective buyer, the clean MOT record means there are no specific advisory items to investigate, which simplifies the inspection process considerably, but attention should still be directed towards areas commonly affected on the DS3 platform. On a test drive, listen for any clonking or knocking from the front suspension over speed humps and uneven surfaces, as the front wishbone and anti-roll bar bushes are known wear items on this model. Check that the steering is precise and free from any knocking or wandering at speed, and apply the brakes firmly to confirm there is no vibration through the pedal or steering wheel, which could indicate warped front discs, particularly if the vehicle has been subject to infrequent use. Inspect the underbody for any surface corrosion on subframe and suspension components, and verify that all warning lights extinguish promptly after ignition. Given the low recorded mileage, it is prudent to confirm the timing belt and water pump replacement interval, as the original schedule is typically based on age rather than mileage for this engine family, and confirm that the brake fluid and coolant have been changed within recommended intervals, as these degrade with time regardless of distance covered. Examine the tyres closely for uneven wear patterns or sidewall cracking, as low-mileage vehicles often suffer from perishing due to age rather than use. Verify that all electronic systems, including infotainment, climate control, and parking sensors, function correctly, as intermittent faults may not appear during a short test drive but can be costly to remedy. Finally, a compression test or oil analysis is advisable given the modest mileage, to ensure the engine internals have not suffered from infrequent use or extended oil change intervals.
