2012 Volkswagen Crafter 2.0L Diesel · SW62 EWG

A clean and stable mechanical profile defines this 2012 Volkswagen Crafter, with the most recent MOT on 28 October 2025 passing without a single advisory or defect recorded. Across the visible test history spanning 2023 to late 2025, the vehicle has demonstrated consistent roadworthiness, passing on three separate occasions with no component issues logged. The two failures noted in 2023 and 2025 are recorded without defects, which typically indicates administrative or registration-related hold points rather than mechanical non-compliance, given the immediate subsequent passes. This pattern of clean pass results with no advisories, particularly over the last twelve months, suggests the Crafter has maintained its structural and mechanical integrity through the later stages of its service life. With 102,275 miles accumulated over approximately fourteen years, this Crafter averages around 7,305 miles per year, a rate that sits squarely within the expected bracket for a commercial vehicle of its age. This mileage profile points to steady working use rather than prolonged standing or excessive high-mileage wear, which is the most favourable outcome for a vehicle of this type. The absence of large gaps between MOT tests further supports the impression of continuous, regular operation. Mechanically, this kind of consistent usage typically ensures that components such as the diesel particulate filter, turbocharger, and drivetrain have remained in active service without suffering the degradation associated with extended periods off the road, and consumables like brakes and tyres have been replaced at sensible intervals. For a prospective buyer, the priority is to physically verify the condition of the items that the MOT history cannot fully assess, particularly given the Crafter's commercial origins where load and route demands vary widely. On a test drive, listen carefully for any knocking or clonking from the front suspension over uneven surfaces, paying specific attention to the condition of the front lower arms, drop links, and anti-roll bar bushes, as these are common wear points on the Crafter platform. Check for any pulling under braking or vibration through the steering wheel, which would indicate warped front brake discs or worn caliper slide pins, and verify that the clutch feels firm and progressive without slipping under load, given the working history of the vehicle. Given the typical payload duties of this model, it is also worth inspecting the rear leaf spring assemblies and their mounting points for any signs of cracking, sagging, or corrosion, and confirming that the underbody and subframe areas remain free of the heavy structural corrosion that can affect high-mileage commercial vehicles. Listen for any excessive smoke from the exhaust on startup, which could point to worn turbo seals or rising oil consumption in the diesel engine, and confirm that the gearbox selects all ratios cleanly without synchroniser whine. Finally, verify the operation of all load-area fittings, the rear step or barn door seals, and confirm that the tyre tread depths and sidewall condition are uniform across all wheels, as commercial use often produces uneven wear patterns that warrant close inspection.
