2017 Volkswagen Crafter 2.0L Diesel · VN67 XPX

The vehicle most recently passed its MOT on 30 July 2026 with no defects or advisories recorded. While this latest result is positive, the overall maintenance trend is difficult to verify due to a significant gap in the official record between November 2020 and July 2026. This absence of continuous testing suggests the vehicle may have been stored or used off-road for a prolonged period, meaning the current clean sheet does not necessarily reflect a consistent history of preventative maintenance. With a recorded mileage of 88,253 miles over approximately nine years, the vehicle has averaged nearly 9,800 miles per annum. This is a moderate usage rate for a Volkswagen Crafter, indicating it has not been subjected to the extreme wear associated with high-mileage fleet work. However, the suspected periods of inactivity are of greater mechanical concern than the total mileage, as long-term standing can lead to the degradation of rubber components and the seizure of moving parts. Given the likely periods of standing, a physical inspection must prioritise the condition of the tyres beyond simple tread depth. Inspect the sidewalls for fine cracking or perishing, as rubber degrades with age regardless of mileage. Particular attention should be paid to the braking system; check for binding calipers or significant surface corrosion on the brake discs, which can cause shuddering or reduced efficiency. During a test drive, listen for any suspension clunks or knocks that might indicate perished bushes or coil springs that have lost their elasticity. It is essential to verify the service history to ensure that calendar-based maintenance has been performed. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should be replaced every two years, and engine oil degrades over time even if the mileage remains low. Check the 12V battery health and look for signs of leakage or corrosion on the terminals. Finally, refer back to the 2020 advisories regarding a distorted nearside front wheel and uneven tyre wear; ensure the current wheel alignment is correct and that there is no evidence of ongoing tracking issues or uneven wear on the current set of front tyres.
