2012 Toyota GT86 2.0L Petrol · WK62 TWN

This Toyota GT86 maintains a consistently strong record of roadworthiness, characterized by a lack of major failures over several years, though the latest pass on 20 October 2025 introduces a specific concern regarding braking performance. While the vehicle has historically sailed through inspections with minimal issues, the emergence of imbalanced front braking efficiency suggests a shift from a clean bill of health toward a need for targeted mechanical attention. An average annual accumulation of approximately 5,200 miles is notably low for a vehicle of this age, indicating a usage pattern of light duty or extended periods of inactivity. Mechanically, this typically results in reduced wear on the engine, gearbox, and drivetrain components compared to high-mileage examples. However, low-usage profiles often manifest as accelerated degradation of rubber components, as evidenced by the 2022 advisories regarding perishing front tyres and worn rear tyres. Priority should be given to the braking system due to the imbalanced requirements flagged in the most recent inspection. During a test drive, the buyer should be alert for any steering pull to one side under moderate to heavy braking or an inconsistent pedal feel, which could indicate a binding caliper or uneven pad wear. A physical inspection of the front brake discs and pads is necessary to ensure there is no uneven scoring or glazing that would contribute to this imbalance. Given the previous history of perishing tyres, a close examination of all current rubber compounds is advised, focusing on the sidewalls for fine cracking or weather-checking. While the 2022 tyre issues were addressed, the pattern suggests the vehicle may be prone to age-related rubber degradation. Ensure the steering remains precise and the vehicle tracks straight, as any lingering brake imbalance can affect overall handling and stability during deceleration.
