2005 Aprilia RSV 1.0L Petrol · YJ05 XYX

The vehicle fails the most recent MOT on 2026‑04‑09, presenting multiple defects: an exhaust noisy condition (8.1.1 a), front and rear brake binding (1.2.1 f), a stop‑lamp that remains illuminated when the brakes are released (4.3.2 a iii) and a rear brake‑fluid reservoir secured only with cable ties. The exhaust noise first appeared as an advisory in 2023 and has persisted through subsequent passes, while brake‑related issues have re‑emerged after a brief resolution in 2017. This pattern indicates a worsening maintenance trend, and the car is not currently roadworthy. Mileage records are sparse and show very low overall usage. From 2019 (4 mi) to 2020 (52 mi) the vehicle moved only 48 mi, then progressed to 521 mi by 2021, 1 016 mi by 2022 and 1 216 mi by 2023. The jump from 2022 to 2023 added just 200 mi over 12½ months, suggesting the bike has been stored or lightly used for most of its life. No cumulative mileage figure is available, so an age‑to‑mileage assessment cannot be made, but the data points to a vehicle with minimal wear despite its age. A buyer should inspect the exhaust system for loose or damaged components, as the noisy exhaust has been a recurring issue. Brake condition is paramount: check for binding calipers, inspect rear brake discs for distortion (noted in 2017), verify the stop‑lamp switch operation and ensure the fluid reservoir is properly mounted, not just tied with cable ties. Steering components merit close examination because of the 2017 steering‑lock‑stop failure and the 2016 notchiness report; assess the rack, column and lock mechanism for play or wear. Finally, examine the chassis and frame for corrosion or rust, given the vehicle’s age and the earlier structural faults.
