2003 Chrysler Voyager 2.5L Diesel · YP03 TYU

A notably bare MOT history defines this 2003 Chrysler Voyager, with every recorded test entry showing either a clean pass or a failure with no defects listed at all. This pattern is unusual and warrants careful interpretation: a pass with no advisories on an elderly Chrysler people-carrier is genuinely rare, while a failure that records zero defects suggests either an administrative refusal to test, a refusal for documentation, or a very late submission past the deadline that prompted a fail-then-immediate-retest sequence. The current roadworthy status is positive, with a pass recorded on 11 November 2025, but the absence of any advisory data across five tests over three years means there is essentially no service-side signal from DVSA to draw conclusions about wear items, corrosion, or component degradation. A buyer cannot rely on MOT advisories alone here and must treat the inspection as starting from a blank page. The recorded mileage of 173,534 miles spread over approximately 23 years works out to roughly 7,545 miles annually, which sits comfortably within the expected envelope for a family MPV of this vintage and suggests regular but modest use rather than motorway commuter duty or long-term storage. The gap between the 2023 test and the 2024 attempt is minimal, and the pairings of a fail immediately followed by a pass on both the 2024 and 2025 entries are consistent with a vehicle tested a day or two apart, likely held over from a late presentation. There are no dramatic mileage jumps recorded between tests, which argues against clock fraud or extended periods of unrecorded use, and the steady accumulation indicates the drivetrain, transmission, and suspension have been worked consistently rather than left to seize through inactivity. For a 2.5-litre or 3.3-litre Chrysler Voyager, the major mechanical assemblies have absorbed a substantial working life and component fatigue on engine mounts, gearbox mountings, and rear axle bushes should be assumed rather than surprising. Because the MOT record contains no flagged components, the inspection priorities must shift to the items that most commonly compromise roadworthiness on a Voyager of this age and mileage. The rear suspension trailing arm bushes, front lower wishbone bushes, and anti-roll bar drop links are notorious for deterioration on this platform, so on a test drive listen for clonking over uneven surfaces, particularly at low speed over speed humps, and feel for vagueness or a wandering sensation through the centre of the steering. Brake pedal feel should be checked for sponginess or excessive travel, which on a high-mileage Voyager often points to rear caliper slider seizure or a fatigued master cylinder rather than simple pad wear. Given the absence of any corrosion advisories in the record, a physical examination of the sill seams, rear wheel arches, subframe mounting points, and the exhaust front section remains essential, as these are typical rot zones that may simply not have been recorded. Underneath, oil seepage from the crankshaft rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, and the power steering rack are all common at this mileage, and a warm engine with milky residue on the oil filler cap should be treated as a red flag for head gasket failure, a known weak point on the Chrysler 3.3-litre V6. The automatic transmission should be checked by selecting each gear with the engine running and warmed up, listening for a significant clunk on the drive engagement and feeling for slipping or harsh flare between second and third gear. Finally, examine the sliding rear side door mechanism for smooth operation and confirm the electric windows and mirror adjusters all function, as electrical gremlins in the door looms are a recurring complaint. With no MOT advisory trail to lean on, a pre-purchase inspection by a mechanic familiar with Chrysler Voyagers is strongly advisable before committing.
