2007 Mazda 5 2.0L Diesel · YR07 TSX

A 2007 Mazda 5 with this much mileage under its belt and almost two decades of service on the road tells a fairly typical story of high-use family transport, but the recorded DVSA history is unusually sparse and offers limited reassurance. The vehicle appears only twice in the visible testing record, with a pass and a fail logged within three days of each other in May 2022, and then nothing since. While it is entirely possible the car has not been used on the public road or has not required a test in the intervening years, the buyer should treat this as a gap in verifiable roadworthiness information rather than evidence of a clean bill of health. The latest recorded test was a pass on 12 May 2022 with no defects or advisories noted, but the absence of any subsequent testing means there are no independent observations covering the last four years of wear, which is significant for a vehicle of this age and mileage. At roughly 151,000 miles accumulated over nineteen years, this Mazda averages close to 8,000 miles annually, which is broadly in line with normal private use for a people-carrier of its era. There is no recorded mileage progression in the supplied data to verify this figure against, and without intermediate test readings there is no way to confirm that the odometer has not been subject to discrepancy, clocking, or simply under-recorded use. Mechanically, a high-mileage Mazda 5 of this vintage will typically show wear in the areas common to all heavily used MPVs of the period: rear suspension bushes and trailing arm bushes, front lower arm and anti-roll bar link bushes, coil spring fatigue, and exhaust system corrosion from the cat-back. Engine and transmission wear at this mileage is also a realistic concern, particularly around gearbox synchro wear on manual examples and torque converter or auto gearbox solenoid behaviour on automatic versions, along with potential oil weepage from cam covers, front crankshaft seals, and rear diff seals on the four-wheel-drive variants. For a prospective buyer, a physical inspection is essential precisely because the MOT history alone cannot speak for the past four years. On a test drive, listen carefully for clonks or knocks from the rear suspension over speed humps and uneven surfaces, which would suggest worn trailing arm or beam bushes, and feel for any vagueness or wandering from the steering that might point to worn front arm bushes or tie rod ends. Check for brake pedal sponginess or pulling to one side under firm stopping, which on a high-mileage car can indicate corroded brake pipes, worn discs beyond service limit, or a binding caliper. Inspect the underside thoroughly for any surface corrosion on subframe, brake lines, and fuel lines, paying particular attention to the rear axle area and exhaust hangers where rust is common on Mazda 5s of this generation. Finally, verify all fluid levels and condition, check for any signs of blue exhaust smoke on start-up or under load that would indicate piston ring or valve guide wear, and confirm that the mileage figure on the odometer matches the V5C document and any service history available, given the absence of recent MOT records to corroborate the claimed reading.
