2018 Volvo V60 2.0L Petrol · YX18 KBV

The most recent MOT history for this 2018 Volvo V60 reveals a concerning pattern of repeated failures at the same mileage intervals, despite no recorded defects on either test. The vehicle failed twice in succession in September 2025—once on the 1st and again on the 2nd—before passing its September 2024 test without issue. This inconsistency suggests either a test centre error, a deliberate retest after a minor oversight, or a recurring issue that evaded detection during the initial inspection. The lack of specific advisories or defects in the passing tests means no mechanical failures were formally documented, but the repeated retesting implies an underlying issue that may not have been fully resolved. The mileage progression of 103,329 miles today, with the last test occurring just eight months ago, indicates a steady accumulation of approximately 12,900 miles annually—well above the average for a vehicle of this age. This high mileage suggests either consistent heavy use or prolonged periods of operation without significant downtime. Notably, the gap between tests remains consistent at around 17,000 miles, with no extended periods of inactivity or unusually rapid mileage jumps. While this could imply regular maintenance intervals, the repeated failures at the same mileage points raise questions about whether critical components were overlooked during servicing. Given the lack of documented defects in passing tests, the most prudent areas for an in-person inspection would focus on components prone to wear at this mileage: the suspension system, including coil springs, bushes, and dampers, should be examined for uneven wear or corrosion, as should the brake calipers and discs for binding or excessive thickness variation. The repeated failures also warrant scrutiny of the vehicle’s structural integrity, particularly around the wheel arches and sills, where corrosion could compromise safety without immediate MOT failure. The absence of advisories in prior tests does not preclude hidden issues, so a thorough visual and functional assessment of these areas is essential. The buyer should also verify the service history for evidence of proactive maintenance, as the MOT record alone does not confirm whether critical fluid changes or component replacements were performed.
