Common Problems with the
2010 Saab 9-5 NG

The 9-5 NG launched in 2010 as Saab's final model before bankruptcy, built on the GM Epsilon II platform shared with the Vauxhall Insignia. It was a striking and highly desirable "future classic" with exceptional interior space and seat comfort, but early cars had an oil pickup pipe seal issue on the 2.0 TiD/TTiD diesel that could cause engine seizure.

What changed for 2010

  • •All-new GM Epsilon II platform
  • •2.0T petrol and 2.0 TiD/TTiD diesel engines
  • •LED tail light bar across boot lid
  • •HiPer Strut front suspension on Aero models
  • •XWD (Haldex) AWD available

Common MOT watch-outs

  • !Oil pickup pipe seal hardening on diesel — engine seizure risk
  • !LED tail light bar failure — replacements no longer manufactured
  • !Haldex AWD pump failure if fluid not serviced
  • !HiPer Strut front suspension wear on Aero models

HiPer Strut Front Suspension Wear
