2005 Volkswagen Golf TDI S 1.9L Diesel · PLZ 6146

The 2005 Volkswagen Golf TDI S currently holds a failed MOT status from 31 July 2025 at 142,995 miles, with the tester recording no specific defects against the failure. Prior to this, the vehicle passed cleanly on 29 August 2021 at 117,943 miles after a failed test one month earlier on 29 July 2021 at 117,323 miles, also with no defects logged. The maintenance trend is difficult to assess as stable or worsening because the recent failure lacks diagnostic detail, but the clean pass history between 2018 and 2021 suggests no chronic mechanical issues were formally flagged during that window. The odometer shows 142,995 miles against an age of roughly 21 years, equating to about 6,800 miles per year, which is typical usage for a diesel hatch of this period. The records reveal a substantial gap: no MOT data exists between August 2021 and July 2025, a near four-year void covering approximately 25,000 miles of unverified operation. Earlier, the car accumulated around 21,000 miles between July 2018 and July 2019, then slowed to roughly 6,700 miles in the following year, indicating irregular but not abusive annual distances. A buyer must physically verify why the July 2025 test failed despite no defects listed, as DVSA systems sometimes omit advisory text. Given the age and the 25,000-mile gap since the last clean pass, the suspension bushes, front coil springs, and subframe corrosion should be closely examined for degradation from standing or light use. Brake discs and calipers may show binding or uneven wear after prolonged inactivity. The two 2021 tests with no recorded faults imply previous owners cleared basic roadworthiness, yet the unexplained 2025 failure warrants caution. Inspect the exhaust emissions and structural integrity underneath, particularly sills and mounting points, before committing to purchase.
