2012 Audi A5 2.0L Diesel · AF12 NZS

A pattern of low-frequency usage and minimal recorded mechanical intervention defines this vehicle's MOT history, which shows a relatively clean record with no recorded failures across the available tests. The most recent recorded test on 27 February 2017 resulted in a pass with no defects, following a period in 2016 where both the nearside and offside front brake discs were flagged as being worn, pitted, or scored. While the absence of failures since 2017 suggests the vehicle has met minimum roadworthiness standards in the recorded instances, the lack of recent testing data beyond 2017 represents a significant gap in documented compliance and mechanical oversight. The recorded mileage of 65,244 miles for a 2012 model represents an unusually low annual accumulation of approximately 4,660 miles per year. While this lower mileage implies less cumulative wear on high-friction components such as the drivetrain and engine internals compared to a higher-mileage equivalent, it also indicates the vehicle has likely spent significant periods stationary. Such usage patterns can lead to the degradation of rubber components, such as suspension bushes and seals, and may result in the seizing of non-moving parts like brake calipers or various linkage points due to lack of regular motion. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the braking system during a physical inspection and test drive, given the previous advisories regarding pitted and scored brake discs. You should check for any signs of uneven braking force or pedal judder, which can indicate warped or unevenly worn discs. Furthermore, because the vehicle has been driven sparingly, it is essential to inspect the condition of the brake calipers for signs of corrosion or sticking, which can lead to binding and premature wear of the pads. Beyond the braking system, the low annual mileage necessitates a thorough check of all rubber-based suspension components and engine mounts. Listen for any knocking or clunking noises when traversing uneven surfaces, which could indicate perished bushes or worn coil springs. Additionally, inspect the vehicle for any evidence of fluid leaks from seals or gaskets that may have dried out or been compromised during periods of inactivity. Any signs of oil misting or weeping around the engine or gearbox should be closely monitored to ensure that the low-use profile has not led to seal failure.
