2015 Ford Mondeo 2.0L Diesel · AF15 VCV

A dual-failure pattern bookends an otherwise unblemished MOT history for this 2015 Ford Mondeo, with the most recent test on 27 March 2026 returning a fail and an identical result recorded on 10 April 2023. Each of these failures shows no defects listed, which is unusual and suggests the test was aborted at an early stage rather than producing a list of items. The intervening tests on 11 April 2023, 29 March 2024, and 1 April 2025 all passed with no advisories, demonstrating a clean roadworthiness record over the majority of its testing life. Mechanically, this is not a vehicle showing a chronic decline; it is one with two isolated administrative or procedural setbacks rather than a pattern of component deterioration. The recorded 73,777 miles across roughly eleven years equates to approximately 6,700 miles annually, which sits squarely within the typical range for a privately owned Mondeo of this vintage and age bracket. There are no significant gaps between MOT tests that would imply a multi-year lay-up, and the consistent annual testing rhythm suggests the car has remained in regular use throughout its life. At this mileage level, wear items such as brake discs, pads, tyres, and suspension components should have been replaced at least once, but the absence of any advisories on the recent passed tests indicates the consumables were likely within tolerance as of March 2025. The mileage profile does not raise immediate red flags for excessive component stress or for the degradation patterns often associated with long-term low use. For a prospective buyer, the priority on inspection should be to identify why those two test entries resulted in failures, particularly the most recent one. A retest shortly after the 2026 fail would clarify whether items were rectified, and any subsequent pass certificate should be requested and verified. Given the clean advisory history, particular attention on a physical inspection should fall on the components most commonly responsible for Mondeo MOT failures in this age bracket, including the front and rear brake discs and pads, the coil springs, and the suspension arms and bushes which can perish and produce knocking over uneven surfaces. The exhaust system, including the rear silencer and mounting rubbers, is another known wear area on higher-mileage examples and should be checked for blowing, rattling, or visible corrosion. On a test drive, listen carefully for any clonking or knocking from the front suspension when traversing speed bumps or potholes, as worn drop links and anti-roll bar bushes are a frequent source of MOT failure on this model. Feel for any vibration or judder through the brake pedal under firm application, which can indicate warped or excessively worn front discs requiring replacement. Steering should remain precise without pulling to either side under braking or acceleration, and any looseness in the steering wheel before directional input begins may point to worn track rod ends. Finally, verify the operation of all exterior lighting including the rear fog lamp and number plate illumination, and confirm that the tyres are matching in tread depth and brand, as inconsistent fitment often draws tester attention. With the limited information available from the MOT history, the vehicle presents as fundamentally sound but warrants a thorough pre-purchase inspection to satisfy any concerns raised by the recent failed test entry.
