2009 Volkswagen Golf 2.0L Diesel · AG09 MJE

The vehicle currently fails the roadworthiness standard following the February 2026 MOT test at 155,998 miles, where the tester issued a fail with no defects recorded. This anomalous entry leaves the maintenance trend ambiguous rather than clearly stable or worsening, though the preceding annual tests from 2023 to 2025 passed without advisories. The absence of recorded faults across those passes suggests reasonable baseline upkeep, but the unexplained February 2026 failure demands scrutiny before any purchase. Annual mileage sits at roughly 9,176 miles, typical for a 2009 Golf. The records show 110,134 miles in March 2023, 123,167 miles in February 2024, 141,151 miles in March 2025, and 155,998 miles in February 2026. That equates to steady 12,000 to 15,000 mile yearly use with no standing periods or sudden accumulation spikes. The DVSA data is sparse, listing only pass and fail outcomes with no advisories on suspension bushes, brake discs, corrosion, or exhaust emissions across the five-year window. A buyer must establish why the February 2026 test failed despite no defects logged. Such entries often reflect administrative errors, missing documentation, or unrecorded mechanical faults like binding calipers or worn coil springs caught outside the system. Inspect the vehicle in person for structural integrity issues, particularly chassis corrosion and subframe condition given the 17-year age and high mileage. Verify the braking system, suspension articulation, and tyre tread depth physically, since the clean history offers no assurance on consumable wear. The previous owner's pattern shows consistent test attendance but the final fail warrants caution over deferred maintenance.
