2016 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0L Petrol · BA11 DJO

A pattern of consistent roadworthiness is evident across the seven recorded MOT tests, with the vehicle passing its most recent inspection on 17 July 2026. While the majority of the testing history shows no recorded defects, the most recent result introduces a specific advisory regarding thinning front brake pads. This indicates a shift from a previously clean record to the emergence of wear-related maintenance requirements, marking a transition from a period of zero defects to the identification of consumable component depletion. The vehicle's mileage profile shows an annual accumulation of approximately 5,074 miles, which is relatively low for a 2016 model. This usage pattern suggests the vehicle has been subject to infrequent road use over its ten-year lifespan. Mechanically, such low annual mileage can mean that components like suspension bushes and drivetrain seals have experienced less physical wear than a high-mileage equivalent, but it can also mean that rubber components and tyres are more susceptible to age-related degradation rather than tread wear. The advisory from 2022 regarding tyre cracking or perishing, combined with the 2026 advisory for thin front brake pads, highlights that age-related degradation and component wear are the primary mechanical considerations for this vehicle. During a test drive, particular attention should be paid to the braking system. Listen for any squealing or grinding noises when applying the brakes, and feel for any pulsation or judder through the brake pedal, which could indicate uneven pad wear or disc surface issues. Given the low mileage and the specific advisory regarding tyre condition in the past, a physical inspection of the tyre sidewalls for perishing or fine cracks is necessary, even if the tread depth appears sufficient. It is also advisable to check the condition of the front brake discs for any significant lip or scoring that may have developed alongside the thinning pads. Any unevenness in braking performance or a slight pulling sensation under braking should be investigated to ensure the calipers are not binding.
