2015 Vauxhall Insignia 2.0L Diesel · CB55 DMB

The most recent MOT inspection on 15 July 2025 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects. Looking at the broader history, the vehicle has experienced two failures in recent years, specifically in November 2023 and November 2024, though both were rectified promptly to achieve a pass. This pattern suggests a maintenance trend that is currently stable and improving, as the most recent two consecutive tests have returned clean results. While the previous failures indicate that minor issues were present, the lack of recurring defects in the latest records suggests that the vehicle is being kept in a roadworthy condition. The recorded mileage of 99,369 miles for an eleven-year-old vehicle equates to an annual average of approximately 9,034 miles. This represents typical, moderate usage for a vehicle of this class, suggesting it has likely been used for a mix of commuting and occasional longer trips. This level of mileage is advantageous as it avoids the extreme wear associated with high-mileage commercial use, while also avoiding the potential for seized components or fuel system issues often found in vehicles that have sat idle for long periods. However, at nearly 100,000 miles, the vehicle is entering a phase where major wear items such as the timing belt, water pump, and various suspension components may require proactive replacement if they have not been addressed recently. As the MOT history does not list any specific advisories, the inspection must rely on a thorough physical examination of age-related degradation. You should carefully inspect the tyres for signs of perishing or sidewall cracking, which can occur due to age and environmental exposure even if the tread depth remains sufficient. During the test drive, pay close attention to the suspension and steering; listen for any clunks, knocks, or vibrations that might indicate worn suspension bushes, failing shock absorbers, or compromised coil springs. Additionally, check the brake discs for excessive corrosion or uneven wear, and ensure there is no brake shuddering under deceleration, which could point to warped discs or binding calipers. Beyond mechanical movement, you should assess the condition of the vehicle's consumables and fluids. Verify the age and condition of the 12V battery, as older batteries can become unreliable. Check for any signs of fluid leaks around the engine bay or underside, particularly from the coolant or oil systems, which can manifest as slow drips over time. Finally, because the MOT is a safety inspection rather than a full mechanical service, it is essential to cross-reference the vehicle's service book to confirm that oil changes and scheduled interval maintenance have been performed. A clean MOT history is a positive sign, but it must be supported by a consistent service record to guarantee long-term reliability.
