2005 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2.1L Diesel · DA54 YVL

The vehicle's roadworthiness is currently questionable following a failure in the most recent test on 4 September 2025 at 96,382 miles. While the record shows no specific defects listed for that failure, it represents a sudden break in a multi-year trend of clean passes. Prior to this event, the maintenance trend appeared exceptionally stable, with no defects or advisories recorded across five consecutive tests, suggesting the vehicle remained in a high state of repair until the most recent setback. The mileage pattern is notably low for a 21-year-old van, averaging approximately 4,590 miles per year. The data reveals a significant period of inactivity between February 2022 at 91,728 miles and March 2023 at 96,201 miles, where the vehicle covered over 4,400 miles, but since then, the usage has remained minimal, covering only 181 miles in the following year. This low mileage suggests long periods of standing, which often leads to the degradation of rubber components, perished seals, and brake corrosion despite the lack of mechanical wear. A buyer must conduct a thorough physical inspection focusing on structural integrity and fluid systems. Because the vehicle has sat for extended periods, check for heavy corrosion on the chassis sills, perished suspension bushes, and seized brake sliders. The braking system should be tested for binding calipers or rusted discs, which are common in low-mileage older vehicles. Given the recent 2025 failure without recorded defects, verify the reason for the rejection with the seller to ensure no critical mechanical failure or emissions issue was overlooked before purchase.
