2005 Yamaha FZS1000 1.0L Petrol · HX05 AFK

The vehicle presents a stable maintenance profile based on the available MOT history, with the most recent test on 3 March 2022 showing a clean pass at 13,590 miles. While the record shows no defects in that specific test, the history indicates a pattern of minor consumable issues rather than systemic mechanical failure. The absence of any recorded failures suggests the motorcycle has been maintained sufficiently to meet minimum legal standards, though the lack of recent testing since early 2022 requires immediate attention given the current date. The mileage accumulation is exceptionally low for a 2005 model, averaging approximately 647 miles per year. The data shows a significant period of stagnation between 2013 and 2017, where mileage only increased by 191 miles over four years. This pattern of very low usage suggests the vehicle has spent long periods stationary. While this reduces wear on the drivetrain and engine internals, it often leads to secondary issues such as perished rubber components, degraded fluids, or seized parts that do not always manifest during a standard MOT inspection. A prospective buyer must conduct a thorough physical inspection of the front suspension. The tester flagged nearside front shock absorber stanchion misting in both August 2012 and May 2017. Although no defect was noted in the 2022 test, the recurrence of this issue indicates a potential long-term seal weakness that could lead to oil leaks or compromised damping. You should check the stanchions for any signs of weeping or scoring and verify the fork oil condition. Tyre management appears to be a recurring minor issue for previous owners. The 2020 test at 12,655 miles noted a front tyre worn close to the legal limit, following a similar advisory for a rear tyre in August 2012. The 2020 report also flagged a noisy exhaust, which may indicate a loose mounting or a small leak in the manifold. Given the low mileage and the time elapsed since the last recorded test, you should inspect the age and condition of all tyres for sidewall cracking and ensure the exhaust system remains securely fixed and free from corrosion.
