2012 Toyota Aygo VVT-I Fire AC 1.0L Petrol · JFZ 1806

The most recent MOT test on July 31, 2024, resulted in a failure with no defects recorded, indicating the vehicle was not deemed roadworthy at that point. This represents a concerning trend, as the previous two tests—one failure in May 2023 and one pass in June 2023—suggest inconsistent maintenance or oversight rather than a clear pattern of improvement. The absence of any recorded defects across these tests implies the failure was likely administrative or procedural, though without further clarification, the underlying cause remains unclear. Buyers should treat this as a red flag, as a vehicle failing MOT twice in quick succession without explanation raises questions about its true condition. The mileage progression shows a steady accumulation of approximately 10,000 miles annually, which aligns with typical usage for a vehicle of this age. Between March 2022 and July 2024, the odometer increased by 22,162 miles, averaging around 9,230 miles per year—a rate that does not indicate excessive wear but also does not suggest prolonged neglect. The gap between the 2023 failure and the 2024 failure, spanning roughly 12,000 miles, is unusually short for a vehicle that had previously passed an MOT, particularly when no defects were noted. This inconsistency warrants further scrutiny, as it may imply either a lack of pre-MOT preparation or an issue that was not properly addressed between tests. Given the lack of specific defect details in the MOT history, a buyer should prioritise a thorough inspection of high-wear components that often fail without warning. The suspension system—particularly the coil springs, bushes, and dampers—should be examined for uneven wear or corrosion, as these are common failure points in vehicles of this age. Brake components, including discs, pads, and calipers, must be checked for uneven wear or binding, especially if the vehicle has been driven hard or exposed to moisture. Structural integrity, particularly around the wheel arches, sills, and subframe, should be assessed for rust penetration, as this is a silent but critical failure mode in older Toyota models. Additionally, the exhaust system should be inspected for leaks or excessive corrosion, as this can affect emissions and structural soundness. Given the recent MOT failures, a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is strongly advised to uncover any hidden issues.
