1995 Volkswagen Caravelle 2.4L Diesel · M362 SKM

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness profile, having maintained a clean testing record over the last four years. The most recent inspection in January 2026 at 179,443 miles resulted in a pass with no defects recorded. This follows a singular failure in December 2025 at 179,400 miles, which appears to be a minor administrative oversight or a trivial consumable item that was immediately rectified, as the subsequent test showed no evidence of mechanical or structural failure. The mileage pattern is remarkably low for a 31-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 5,788 miles per year. Between September 2022 and September 2023, the van covered only 228 miles, indicating periods of very low use or extended storage. However, usage increased between November 2024 and January 2026, where the vehicle covered 3,000 miles. While the low annual mileage suggests less wear on the drivetrain and engine, it increases the risk of rubber-based components, such as bushes and brake lines, suffering from dry rot due to inactivity. A buyer should focus their physical inspection on the structural integrity of the Caravelle, specifically the sills, floor pans, and wheel arches where corrosion typically congregates on older chassis. Because the MOT history shows no recurring advisories for suspension or braking components, a manual check for perished rubber bushes or seized brake calipers is necessary. Given the low mileage, verifying the condition of the fluids and the age of the tyres is essential to ensure the vehicle has not degraded during its periods of standing.
