The most recent MOT test completed in August 2023 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects or advisories. When evaluating the overall maintenance trend, the vehicle shows a clear pattern of improvement and stabilization. While the history between 2017 and 2020 included several advisories regarding tyre wear, edge degradation, and thinning brake pads, the last three consecutive tests have been entirely clean. This suggests that previous maintenance requirements were addressed and that the vehicle has transitioned into a period of consistent mechanical stability. At 63,983 miles, the vehicle has covered an average of approximately 5,332 miles per year, which is notably low for a 12-year-old car. This low annual usage implies reduced mechanical stress on the engine, transmission, and drivetrain components compared to a high-mileage equivalent. However, such low usage can be a double-edged sword; it may indicate that the vehicle has spent extended periods stationary. This profile necessitates a closer inspection of components that are sensitive to time rather than just distance, as long periods of standing can lead to different types of degradation. During your inspection, you should pay particular attention to the tyres, looking specifically for sidewall cracking or perishing, which is a common symptom of age-related rubber degradation regardless of remaining tread depth. Check the brake discs for excessive surface corrosion or pitting, which can occur when a vehicle is not driven regularly enough to clear the oxidation. On your test drive, listen for any clunks or knocks from the suspension, which could indicate that rubber bushes have perished, and feel for any brake shudder or pulling to the side, which might suggest binding calipers or unevenly corroded rotors. Additionally, verify the health of the 12V battery and the integrity of all fluid-based systems. Because the mileage is low, you must confirm that the service history reflects time-based maintenance, such as annual oil changes and coolant flushes, rather than solely mileage-based intervals, as fluids undergo chemical degradation over time. Check for any signs of fluid leaks from the engine or gearbox that may have developed due to seals drying out from infrequent use. Finally, ensure the service book is stamped to confirm that the vehicle has been maintained according to the manufacturer's calendar-based requirements.
