2012 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2L Petrol · SB62 EUN

Tyre condition has been the most persistent issue flagged on this Corsa, with advisories appearing in 2020, 2021 and again in 2025 for rear‑tyre damage, cracking and edge wear, and a recent advisory for front‑tyre wear close to the legal limit. The 2025 MOT also recorded a brake‑disc advisory for both front discs, indicating pitting or scoring that, while not yet a failure, may be approaching the point of replacement, and a near‑side rear reflector was noted as defective. Apart from a single washer‑fluid failure in 2019, the vehicle has passed every annual test, showing no major safety failures but a clear pattern of tyre‑related wear that will need addressing soon. At 42,251 mi the car averages just over 3,000 mi per year, well below the typical usage for a fourteen‑year‑old vehicle. Such low mileage reduces cumulative wear on the engine, transmission and suspension components, yet it also suggests the car may have spent extended periods idle, which can accelerate ageing of rubber parts, hoses and seals. The MOT record shows no gaps in testing, confirming the mileage figure is consistent with the documented annual inspections and indicating the odometer reading is credible. When inspecting the car, give the tyres the highest priority: examine tread depth on all four wheels, look for sidewall cracks, bulges or perishing rubber, and feel for any vibration or pulling under acceleration that could signal uneven wear or internal damage. Verify that the rear reflector is securely mounted and undamaged, and test the washer‑fluid system for adequate spray and reservoir level. On the brakes, measure disc thickness where possible, listen for squeal or grinding when applying the pedal, and note any pulsation that might betray warped discs or worn pads, especially given the 2025 advisory. Finally, conduct a brief road‑test to assess steering feel and suspension compliance: listen for knocks over bumps that could indicate worn bushings or deteriorated dampers, and watch for any pull to one side that might stem from tyre or alignment issues. Check that the steering wheel returns smoothly to centre and that the pedal travel feels consistent without sponginess. These checks will confirm whether the underlying mechanical condition aligns with the relatively clean MOT history aside from the recurring tyre and brake‑disc concerns.
