2014 Toyota Yaris 1.4L Diesel · SH14 BZM

The 2014 Toyota Yaris has passed its most recent MOT test on January 30, 2026, at 66,899 miles, with no defects recorded. The test history shows a pattern of near-term retesting—two consecutive failures in February 2025 (63,882 and 63,884 miles) followed by a pass in February 2025 and another in March 2024—suggesting the vehicle was brought in for repeated checks rather than a consistent maintenance schedule. The absence of defects in the latest pass indicates no immediate failures in brakes, suspension, emissions, or structural integrity at this stage, though the retesting implies either a rushed repair or a minor oversight in earlier diagnostics. The recorded mileage of 66,899 miles over 12 years equates to approximately 5,575 miles annually, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. The gaps between tests—particularly the 11-month span between the March 2024 pass and the February 2025 failures—raise questions about whether the car was stored or driven sporadically. The retesting in February 2025, just two days apart, further suggests the vehicle was not being used regularly, as rapid mileage accumulation would have made such close retests unnecessary. This pattern may indicate neglect of routine maintenance, as fluids, tyres, and suspension components can degrade even when a car is stationary. Given the lack of recorded defects in recent tests, the primary focus for an in-person inspection should centre on components prone to prolonged inactivity or wear under low-mileage conditions. Check for corrosion in wheel arches, sills, and underbody, as rust can develop even with minimal movement. The suspension—particularly coil springs, bushes, and dampers—should be examined for dryness or cracking, as seals can degrade over time regardless of mileage. Tyre tread depth and lateral wear patterns are critical; failing twice on tread suggests either basic upkeep was skipped or the tyres were replaced just before testing. Finally, verify brake disc thickness and caliper binding, as repeated near-failures could indicate inconsistent servicing or worn components that were not fully addressed before the latest pass.
