2003 Honda CR-V 2.0L Petrol · WV53 NTF

The most recent MOT test on 2025-02-05 confirms the vehicle remains roadworthy, though the record reveals a concerning pattern of two consecutive failures within a month prior—both at 208,000 miles in January 2024. The repeated failures without recorded defects suggest either administrative oversights in the testing process or, more critically, that the vehicle was driven unsafely between tests. The latest pass in February 2025 at 220,525 miles indicates no substantive issues were addressed between failures, raising questions about whether critical components were overlooked or if the vehicle was simply driven until the next test date. The lack of advisories or defects in any test implies no major mechanical failures were documented, but the repeated failures themselves warrant scrutiny of components prone to neglect—particularly brakes, suspension, and exhaust systems—which are common causes of MOT failures in vehicles of this age. The mileage progression shows a steady accumulation of roughly 9,600 miles annually, consistent with typical usage for a vehicle of this age. There are no extended gaps suggesting prolonged neglect, nor are there abrupt spikes that might indicate aggressive driving. The most notable interval is the 1,241-mile jump between the 2023 and 2024 tests, which aligns with the standard 12-month MOT cycle. However, the two back-to-back failures in January 2024—just 14 days apart—suggest the vehicle was driven without intermediate maintenance, which could accelerate wear on critical systems. The absence of service records or additional mileage data beyond the MOTs means any intermediate repairs or inspections remain unverified. Given the repeated failures without documented defects, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of the braking system, including rear caliper binding, disc thickness, and master cylinder condition. The suspension should be examined for worn or leaking bushes, degraded coil springs, and excessive play in ball joints or tie rods, as these are frequent causes of MOT failures in this model. Corrosion at wheel arches, sills, and subframes should also be assessed, particularly given the vehicle’s age, as structural integrity is often compromised by rust. The exhaust system warrants close inspection for leaks or excessive corrosion, especially around the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors, which are common failure points in older Honda CR-Vs. Finally, the electrical system—including lights, indicators, and the immobiliser—should be tested, as these are often overlooked but can lead to repeated MOT failures if faulty.
