2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK 2.1L Diesel · YHY 3

The most recent MOT test conducted on 4 March 2026 resulted in a pass with no defects recorded. Looking at the broader history, the vehicle demonstrates a highly stable maintenance trend, having achieved several consecutive clean passes without any noted advisories. While there was a recorded failure in February 2023, the absence of listed defects suggests this may have been a minor administrative issue or a rapid rectification, as the vehicle passed the following day and has remained defect-free since. With a recorded mileage of 70,451 miles over approximately 14 years, this Mercedes-Benz SLK has been used sparingly, averaging roughly 5,032 miles per year. This low annual usage indicates that the drivetrain and interior have likely avoided the heavy wear associated with high-mileage vehicles. However, low-mileage cars can often face different mechanical challenges, specifically those related to prolonged periods of inactivity or short trips that prevent the engine from reaching full operating temperature. Given the clean MOT record and low usage, the buyer should focus on age-related degradation rather than wear-and-tear. It is essential to inspect the tyre sidewalls for signs of perishing or hairline cracking, as tyres can lose their structural integrity over time even if the tread depth remains legal. Similarly, the brake discs should be examined for surface corrosion or pitting, and the calipers checked for binding, which is common in vehicles that spend significant time stationary. The 12V battery health should be verified, as low-use luxury vehicles are prone to parasitic drain and premature battery failure. Beyond the MOT data, a physical inspection should prioritize the condition of the retractable hardtop mechanism to ensure smooth operation without hesitation or abnormal noise. The service history must be scrutinized to confirm that oil and other critical fluids have been changed based on calendar intervals rather than mileage alone, as brake fluid and engine oil degrade over time regardless of distance travelled. Finally, a test drive should be used to listen for any suspension clunks or stiffness in the bushes, which can occur when rubber components dry out due to lack of regular articulation.
