2007 Vauxhall Astra 1.6L Petrol · FD07 ODH

A nineteen-year-old Vauxhall Astra with this MOT profile presents a relatively stable roadworthiness picture, anchored by a clean pass on the most recent test dated 10 June 2026 and four consecutive pass-with-no-defects outcomes stretching back to 2022. The only recorded failure sits mid-history, on 30 June 2021, and was caused solely by an inoperative horn a minor electrical/operator issue rather than anything structural or mechanical, with the vehicle passing later the same day once rectified. The advisory trail is narrow and centres on a single component area: the front inner brake discs, which were flagged as worn but not excessively in 2021 and again in 2020 as pitted or scored but not seriously weakened. Because this same area has not been re-flagged across the four most recent tests, the immediate braking components appear to be holding within legal limits, though the prior advisory history suggests the discs were borderline and warrant close physical inspection rather than dismissal on paper alone. The recorded mileage of 47,295 miles across roughly nineteen years equates to an annual accumulation of around 2,489 miles per year, which is well below average for a car of this era. There are no notable gaps between annual tests, indicating the vehicle has been presented for MOT consistently each year since at least 2020, and mileage progression between recorded tests appears gradual rather than abrupt. Low annual mileage of this nature typically reduces wear on major drivetrain components such as the engine, clutch and gearbox internals, but it also tends to accelerate deterioration of items that suffer from underuse. Brake discs and pads can develop surface corrosion from infrequent operation, suspension bushes and ball joints can dry out and perish from lack of regular articulation, rubber components such as drive shaft gaiters and CV boots can become brittle, and underbody protection and underseal can degrade without the abrasion of regular wet-road use. The front inner brake disc advisories recorded in 2020 and 2021 are consistent with the kind of light-use surface pitting that low-mileage cars commonly exhibit, particularly on vehicles that may have made frequent short journeys. For a prospective buyer, the priority on inspection should be the braking system, given that the front inner discs were the only recurring advisory. The discs should be examined directly for lipping at the outer edge, visible corrosion pitting across the friction surface, and any blueing or heat-marking that would indicate the caliper has been binding. On a test drive, listen for any scraping or grinding from the front wheels under light braking, feel for vibration or pulsing through the brake pedal that would suggest disc runout or thickness variation, and check for any pulling to one side that could point to a seized slider pin or uneven pad wear. Beyond the braking system, the low-mileage context warrants particular attention to the suspension, where perished or cracked bushes on the front lower wishbones, anti-roll bar drop links and track rod ends are common on Astras that have seen light rather than continuous use. On the road, any clonking or knocking over uneven surfaces, vagueness in the steering around the straight-ahead position, or a noticeable rattle from the front end over speed humps would indicate that rubber suspension components have hardened and are no longer isolating the chassis effectively. The underside and general condition of the bodywork also merit close scrutiny on a nineteen-year-old vehicle regardless of mileage, because prolonged standing periods can allow moisture to settle in sills, wheel arches and subframe mounting points without the drying effect of regular road use. Particular attention should be paid to the front subframe and suspension turret areas for any surface rust or flaking, the brake and fuel pipe runs along the chassis for corrosion, and the exhaust system for internal baffle collapse which can occur from condensation accumulation in rarely-used systems. On the test drive, listen for any exhaust drone or rattling under acceleration that would suggest a weakened mount or failed internal silencer, and check that the engine reaches operating temperature promptly given that very low annual mileage often correlates with short journeys that prevent full warm-up cycles. Given the otherwise unblemished recent MOT record and the isolated nature of the historical advisories, this Astra appears to be a candidate worth physically inspecting rather than dismissing, provided the brake discs, suspension linkages and underbody confirm the trend implied by the paperwork.
