2015 Volkswagen Golf 1.6L Diesel · GD64 WOU

The most recent MOT test conducted on 28 January 2026 resulted in a clean pass with no defects recorded. Reviewing the longitudinal maintenance history from 2019 through to 2026, the vehicle demonstrates an exceptionally stable and positive trend. Aside from a single advisory in 2020 regarding tyre perishing, the car has consistently passed its inspections without any recorded failures. This suggests a vehicle that has been subject to regular oversight and has not encountered significant mechanical or structural issues during its recent years of operation. The recorded mileage of 48,538 miles is notably low for an eleven-year-old vehicle, representing an average annual usage of approximately 4,413 miles. While this low mileage suggests minimal wear on the engine, transmission, and drivetrain, it also implies that the vehicle may have experienced periods of extended standing. Low-usage vehicles can be prone to specific age-related issues that are not captured by mileage alone, such as the degradation of rubber seals, fluid breakdown, and battery sulfation. The mechanical implications are generally positive regarding component longevity, but the inspection must shift focus from wear-based degradation to time-based deterioration. During a physical inspection and test drive, a prospective buyer should prioritize checking the condition of the tyres. Even if the tread depth is ample, look for sidewall cracking or perishing, as the rubber can harden and lose traction due to age and UV exposure. It is also vital to inspect the braking system for signs of age-related issues. Check the brake discs for heavy corrosion or pitting, which can occur if the car has been stationary, and listen for any binding or squealing from the calipers. A test drive should confirm that the brake pedal remains firm and that there is no shuddering under braking, which could indicate warped discs or uneven pad deposits. Finally, verify that the service history includes time-based intervals rather than just mileage-based ones, as fluids such as engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid should be replaced periodically to prevent chemical degradation. Inspect the 12V battery for signs of age and ensure the electrical systems are functioning correctly. Given the low usage, also examine the suspension bushes and coil springs for any signs of perishing or corrosion, and listen for any knocks or clunks when navigating uneven surfaces. This will help ensure that the components have not become brittle or seized due to infrequent movement.
