2001 BMW 525 2.5L Petrol · LM51 GZW

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness profile with a consistent history of clean passes over the last five years. The most recent inspection conducted in March 2023 at 63,824 miles resulted in no defects or advisories. This suggests that the car has been maintained to a standard that avoids the common mechanical failures and de-icing-related structural issues typically seen in German vehicles of this era. The mileage pattern is exceptionally low for a 25-year-old BMW, averaging approximately 2,500 miles per year. Between March 2019 and March 2023, the vehicle covered only 4,369 miles, showing very little use between tests. The jump from 60,800 miles to 63,824 miles over two years indicates the car is likely used sporadically. While this low mileage reduces mechanical wear on the drivetrain and engine components, it increases the risk of component age degradation, such as perished rubber bushings, dried seals, and brake corrosion, which occur when a vehicle sits stationary for extended periods. A physical inspection must focus on the effects of low-mileage storage. The buyer should check the structural integrity of the sills, floor pans, and subframes for surface rust or perforation, which often goes unnoticed on rarely driven cars. Given the infrequent use, the brake system should be examined for seized calipers or corroded discs that result from lack of friction. Additionally, the suspension bushings and tyre hoses should be checked for cracking and tearing, as these materials reach their end of life cycle regardless of the mileage recorded on the odometer.
