2010 Mercedes Axor Heavy oil · CE10 BFO

The most recent MOT test on October 2, 2025, confirms the vehicle remains roadworthy, though the immediate preceding test on September 6, 2024, was a failure—despite no recorded defects. This anomaly suggests either a rare oversight in testing or a component that narrowly avoided failure at the time. The trend since 2023 shows consistent pass rates with no recurring advisories or defects, implying the vehicle has not experienced major mechanical failures. However, the 2024 failure without explanation warrants scrutiny of high-wear items like suspension bushes, coil springs, or binding calipers, which might have been overlooked or repaired between tests. The mileage progression reveals an unusually aggressive usage pattern, with over 800,000 miles logged in just six years—an average of 50,000 miles annually. This exceeds typical expectations for a vehicle of this age and class, indicating either heavy commercial use or prolonged periods of active operation. The gap between the 2024 failure and subsequent pass (just 18 days) is also notable, as it suggests either a rapid correction or a test centre error. The most recent MOT, just under a year old, is within the acceptable window, but the high mileage demands thorough inspection of drivetrain components, exhaust emissions systems, and structural integrity. Given the lack of recorded defects, the primary focus should be on consumables and high-stress areas. The suspension—particularly rear bushes and coil springs—should be checked for excessive wear or corrosion, as these are common failure points at this mileage. Brake discs and pads, especially rear components, may show uneven wear if the 2024 failure involved binding calipers or hydraulic issues. Structural corrosion, particularly around wheel arches, subframes, and exhaust mounts, must be inspected, as prolonged high-mileage use accelerates deterioration. The absence of advisories does not guarantee these areas are intact, so a professional inspection is essential.
