2013 Audi Q3 2.0L Diesel · AF13 HFE

The vehicle presents a current valid MOT certificate following its most recent test pass on 14 February 2026, indicating that at the time of examination it met the minimum statutory roadworthiness requirements. However, the test history reveals a somewhat irregular pattern, with pass and fail outcomes recorded on consecutive days in both 2025 and 2026. While the absence of recorded defects in both the failed and subsequent passed tests suggests that immediate rectification was carried out and the vehicle was re-presented successfully, this back-to-back pattern can be indicative of borderline components being addressed only when flagged by the examiner. From a maintenance trend perspective, the overall pattern is best described as stable but reactive, with no documented advisories or recurring defect categories to suggest an underlying deterioration in mechanical condition. With 122,919 miles recorded on a 2013 model, the vehicle has accumulated approximately 9,455 miles annually, which is broadly typical for a car of its age and broadly consistent with average UK driving habits. The mileage progression between the recorded tests does not suggest any unusually long periods of inactivity or excessive accumulation that would point to extended standing or high-intensity use. That said, the 22-month interval between the May 2023 test and the February 2025 test warrants a degree of caution, as vehicles that cover low annual mileage often suffer from issues associated with standing rather than wear, including corrosion on brake discs, seized or binding calipers, and degradation of rubber and fluid components through age rather than use. Given the absence of recorded advisories or specific defect categories, a prospective buyer should concentrate on age- and mileage-related inspection points rather than chasing documented problem areas. The tyres warrant particular scrutiny, as a thirteen-year-old vehicle is highly susceptible to sidewall perishing and cracking from UV exposure and age, even if the tread depth remains legal; any visible crazing or hardening of the rubber should be regarded as justification for replacement regardless of wear. The braking system should be examined for signs of corrosion on the disc surfaces and, more importantly, for binding calipers which frequently present on vehicles that see mixed or low-speed use. On a test drive, listen for any scraping or grinding from the front axle, a dragging sensation, or uneven pulling to one side under braking, and check for warmth at all four wheels immediately after a journey. Beyond the braking and rolling stock, attention should turn to the time-served ancillary components. The 12V battery should be load-tested or have its date code verified, as automotive batteries rarely exceed five to six years of reliable service and a failure could be imminent. All fluid systems, including brake fluid, coolant and the dual-clutch or automatic transmission fluid where applicable, should be treated as overdue regardless of the service book history, as calendar-based degradation rather than mileage governs their replacement intervals. The suspension should be checked for worn anti-roll bar bushes, top mount bearings and coil springs, all of which are known wear items on the Q3 at this mileage and age, and any knocking, clonking over uneven surfaces, or inconsistent ride height should be investigated. Finally, verify the completeness of the service book stamps and cross-check the cambelt or timing chain replacement interval, as a 2.0 TFSI or TDI unit of this vintage will be approaching or past its scheduled replacement mileage and a documented change is essential for continued reliability.
