2008 Audi A4 2.0L Diesel · OV58 EYB

The vehicle most recently passed its MOT on 27 July 2026 with no defects recorded, representing a clean result. When evaluating the long-term maintenance trend, the vehicle appears to be in a period of stability following a more problematic phase between 2020 and 2024. Earlier records indicated recurring issues with suspension components, specifically corroded coil springs, and tyre wear, alongside lighting failures. However, the absence of advisories in the two most recent tests suggests that these previous mechanical concerns have been addressed and that the current maintenance regime is effectively managing the vehicle's age-related degradation. With a recorded mileage of 127,997 miles over approximately 18 years, the vehicle has covered an average of roughly 7,111 miles per year. This usage pattern is considered typical for a vehicle of this age and suggests a consistent, moderate level of use rather than extreme motorway commuting or excessive short-trip urban driving. From a mechanical perspective, this steady accumulation of mileage is generally preferable as it reduces the likelihood of extreme component fatigue associated with high mileage, while also avoiding the specific risks of long-term stagnation, such as seized brake calipers, perished rubber seals, or fuel system degradation caused by infrequent use. Despite the recent clean MOT, a prospective buyer should remain vigilant regarding the history of wear on consumables. The 2024 advisory regarding thin nearside rear brake pads indicates that the braking system is subject to standard wear, so you should inspect the remaining pad thickness and check for any uneven disc wear or brake shudder during a test drive, which could indicate sticking calipers. Furthermore, given the previous advisories regarding corroded coil springs, it is essential to perform a visual inspection of the suspension assembly. Look for heavy surface corrosion or fractures on the springs and check the suspension bushes for splitting or excessive movement, as these can manifest as knocking or clunking sounds when driving over uneven road surfaces or speed bumps. Finally, because the vehicle is nearly two decades old, certain age-related maintenance items should be verified regardless of the MOT status. You should check the condition of the tyres for sidewall cracking or perishing, which can occur even if tread depth is sufficient. It is also advisable to verify the service history to ensure that time-sensitive fluids, such as engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid, have been changed according to manufacturer intervals rather than just mileage. Given the vehicle's age, checking the health of the 12V battery and inspecting the engine bay for any signs of fluid weeping from gaskets or hoses is highly recommended to ensure long-term reliability.
