2017 Hyundai Tucson 1.6L Petrol · RK67 OKD

Persistent degradation of rubber components, specifically regarding tyre sidewall condition, defines the recent mechanical history of this Hyundai Tucson, which secured a pass on 28 April 2026 despite multiple advisories. While the vehicle has maintained a consistent record of passing its annual inspections since 2021, the recurring documentation of perished or cracking tyres across both front and rear axles in the 2025 and 2026 tests suggests that the rubber is aging prematurely. This trend, coupled with repeated minor defects related to windscreen wipers and visibility, indicates a pattern of deferred maintenance regarding consumable items that require immediate attention to ensure ongoing roadworthiness. With a total of 42,743 miles recorded over nine years, the vehicle averages approximately 4,749 miles annually, a low-usage profile that often results in different mechanical stressors than high-mileage examples. While the drivetrain has not faced the wear associated with heavy motorway use, the low annual accumulation can lead to the accelerated deterioration of non-moving parts, such as the tyre compounds noted in recent inspections. Prospective buyers should be aware that vehicles with this usage pattern often sit stationary for extended periods, which can influence the condition of braking surfaces and suspension components that rely on regular movement to remain free of surface oxidation or seizing. During the test drive, specific attention must be paid to the braking system, as the 2024 inspection identified thinning front brake pads and discs. Conduct a series of controlled stops to listen for any grinding noises or to feel for vibrations through the pedal, which would indicate that the components flagged two years ago have reached the end of their service life. Given the low mileage, ensure the vehicle tracks straight under braking and that there is no pulling to either side, as binding calipers can be a consequence of infrequent vehicle operation. Furthermore, because the rear seat belts have been obscured by child seats during multiple inspections, it is essential to perform a manual inspection of the full length of the rear seat belt webbing. Ensure that the retractors function smoothly and that the belts lock correctly when pulled sharply, as these safety systems have not been fully verified by an inspector for several years. Finally, inspect the windscreen for the damage noted in the 2026 test to ensure the chip or crack has not propagated, and verify that the wiper blades have been replaced, as their previous failure to pass inspection indicates a lack of recent attention to basic visibility equipment.
