2014 Nissan Micra 1.2L Petrol · WD14 BBO

A 2014 Nissan Micra carrying only 30,033 miles and a string of four consecutive MOT passes with no advisories recorded represents an unusually clean DVSA roadworthiness profile for a vehicle of this age. The most recent test on 1 July 2025 returned a clean pass, and the preceding examinations in 2024, 2023, and 2022 followed the same pattern, with no defects or advisory items noted on any occasion. Across four years of testing, the absence of even minor observations regarding tyres, braking components, suspension, or exhaust items is a notable indicator that the car has either been very lightly used or has been conscientiously maintained ahead of each annual examination. With the 2026 test now due, any prospective buyer should expect a similar pass but should be mindful that a clean previous history does not guarantee the next result, particularly as the vehicle enters its thirteenth year. The recorded mileage equates to an average of around 2,500 miles per year, which is considerably below the typical annual accumulation for a small hatchback of this vintage. This pattern suggests the car has likely been used for short local journeys or has spent extended periods stationary, both of which carry specific mechanical implications. Short trips without sufficient running time can prevent the engine, exhaust system, and catalyst from reaching full operating temperature, accelerating internal corrosion, encouraging moisture build-up in the oil, and leading to premature degradation of items such as the 12V battery. Conversely, long periods of standing can cause ageing of rubber components, including drive belts, hoses, tyres, and suspension bushes, which may show surface cracking even when the car has not been driven far. The lack of MOT advisories on suspension or tyre condition suggests these areas have not yet raised concern, but the low-mileage context warrants closer physical inspection. When physically examining the car, particular attention should be paid to the condition of the tyres, as the sidewalls may have hardened or developed small cracks from age rather than wear. A 2014-vintage tyre, regardless of remaining tread, is approaching the end of its serviceable life. Under the bonnet, check the condition of the drive belt for glazing or surface cracking, inspect the coolant and brake fluid reservoirs for cleanliness and correct level, and look for any signs of oil seepage around the cam cover or sump gasket, which are common on higher-mileage K-series Nissan units but may also appear through age-related seal hardening. The battery should be load-tested if possible, given the likelihood of irregular use. The underside of the vehicle should be examined on a ramp for any developing corrosion to the floorpan, subframe, and suspension mounting points, as DVSA testers may begin to flag structural surface corrosion in the coming years. On a road test, listen carefully for any clonks or knocking from the front suspension over uneven surfaces, which could indicate worn strut top mounts, anti-roll bar drop links, or lower control arm bushes that have deteriorated from age rather than mileage. The steering should remain precise and free of vagueness or knocking on full lock, and the brake pedal should feel firm without any sponginess or pulling to one side under steady application. Pay attention to how the engine behaves from a cold start, listening for any cam-chain rattle, misfire, or rough idle that might indicate neglected servicing given the low annual mileage. Finally, check that all electrical systems function correctly, particularly the air conditioning, central locking, and dashboard warning lamps, as electrical connectors and modules on a car of this age can develop faults from prolonged disuse. The clean MOT history is encouraging, but the low usage pattern demands hands-on verification of the age-sensitive items that an annual test may not fully expose.
